The Story.

The reinforcements have arrived (my mom and sister) so I feel like I can actually sit down and write a post.

Let's start at the very beginning...(a very good place to start). Let's go back to October 6th (the week of my due date.) I was hoping to have some signs of progressing but was disappointed to find out "nothing was happening". At this point I didn't know what to do, I knew it was my decision. I really wanted to try for a VBAC but at what point did I say "okay let's do a c-section"? I couldn't wait forever and she was only getting bigger. Luckily for me (actually an answer to prayers) on the Sunday before my appointment I had a great conversation with my District President (who is a Dr. for the Consulate here) I ended up telling him all of my concerns about the pregnancy and delivery. He gave me some great advice and after I talked to him I felt a distinct impression that it didn't matter the method of delivery just as long as she got here safely.

Anyway, at the appointment we decided to go ahead and schedule a C-section for the 8th. If I went into labor before that, great, if not we had a plan of action. This was our conversation...

Me: "Okay, so what time do we need to be at the hospital?"
Dr: "Just come in the morning."
Me: "Um, okay what time in the morning."
Dr: "Uh, around 10:00."
Me: "Okay, so when will the surgery be?"
Dr: "Probably in the afternoon sometime."

HELLO...VAGUE?

So we leave and I cry because that's what pregnant people do. We had just gotten off the train (which equals loud and busy) and I get a phone call from a nurse who doesn't identify herself and says I need to be at the hospital at 7:30 in the morning. So I repeat to clarify. 7:30 in the morning is when I need to be there? She replies yes. Let me remind you that we live 1 1/2 hours from the hospital.

My friend who was planning on watching Graham was kind enough to let us sleepover the night before (she lives near the hospital). Graham had a hard time falling asleep that night. Then he would wake up every time I went to the bathroom (which is ALOT). Needless to say, no one slept. I get a phone call at 6:00AM. It was a nurse from the hospital. She asked me if I was coming. I said, I was planning on coming at 7:30. Well, well apparently my surgery was scheduled for 7:30AM. AWESOME. We ran around half awake scrambling to get ready while Graham is melting down. I get in the elevator crying while listening to Graham sob "Mommy". It broke my heart. (I tried so hard to be so prepared so it wouldn't be so traumatic for Graham, so much for my planning.)
Anyway, we arrived at this lovely place while everyone rushed around so that I could make my 7:30 surgery time. I was a mess. Then we found out our insurance wouldn't cover a private room and I would have to share. Not what I wanted to hear at the time.
I had a great anesthesiologist who calmed me right down. It ended up being a great experience. I got to hold her immediately and I was awake and aware. Which made a HUGE difference.
(That didn't happen with Graham)
This was my view from my room (even though I had to share, I got the side with a window!) My roommates were interesting to say the least. I sent Finley into the nursery at night so I could get some rest. My roommates (I had two different ones) did not. Which is fine except that their babies cried all night. In fact one of my roommates wouldn't pick up her baby when he cried so the nurse came in and told her. "ma'am, when your baby cries you need to pick him up".

hmmmmm

The other roommate would have full on conversations with the nurse in the middle of the night. "I'm so tired, how am I going to do this? How am I going to wake up to feed her when I'm at home? I'm so tired, "

along with,

"Why is she crying? Why won't she stop crying?"

there were many more...

Meanwhile, I'm laying wide awake in my bed screaming in my head. I was there for 4 nights and technically I should have stayed for one more. NO WAY!

Graham would come visit everyday. OJ would take him exploring around the hospital. He had a hard time when he had to go.
He loved seeing his "baby".

He loved the "Gordon" train that Finley gave him.

He especially loved the Disney channel he got to watch.
(This was the only day I didn't have a roommate.)

And OJ loved my robe.

(FYI: To book a room at this hospital for delivery we had to pay a deposit months ago to ensure our "spot".)

I did it! I'm glad its over, I'm so glad I'm not pregnant anymore.

Finley is way cuter on the outside of me rather than the inside of me.

Two weeks tomorrow.

I would've updated sooner but lets be honest...it usually comes down to sleep or blogging...sleep wins hands down.

My favorite conversations this week between OJ and I.

OJ: "What do you want for breakfast?"
Me: "A shower."

OJ: "Do you feel like we just do the same thing everyday?"

OJ: (Just after dinner) "Oh my gosh, is it really already 6:30? Its time to get the kids ready for bed again? I feel like I just woke up. (or rather stayed up all night)"

OJ: (After going outside for the first time that day) "Wow, it was so nice to get out...I totally understand now how you go a little crazy being home all day."

Funny.

We are surviving. Life is crazy. If I'm not feeding one then I'm changing the other and so on. Whew...we are busy but so happy.

We love our Finley.

our sweet little Finley.

( Click to enlarge to see Graham's face...its pretty funny. I promise he likes her, he was concerned she was crying, and I was determined to get a family picture. :)
